Social Education Groups At The Accord School
Because of our foundation and focus on comprehensive social and emotional skills and awareness, The Accord School extends our expertise beyond our day students. After school, we open our doors to children and teens from dozens of schools and districts across the South Shore, providing dynamic, intentional social education groups that offer both direct teaching and the invaluable opportunity for genuine practice.
Depending on the student's age, the experience feels like a playgroup, youth group, or extracurricular activity- not just another therapy. Participants eagerly run toward group- eager to learn, but more importantly, excited to see the genuine friends they make in the program.
Typical topics covered in our social groups include, but are not limited to:
Emotional Literacy and Regulation
Noticing and Connecting with Others
Any Other Topic that is Relevant!
Because of the ever-evolving social complexities of their world, groups can be a good fit for many kids- with or without an identified social learning challenge. In fact, diagnosis does not matter to us at all. We meet with each child and family individually, then thoughtfully group children with like-minded peers. Staff to student ratio is between 1:4-1:6, and are facilitated by experienced professionals.
Social Groups are run on a trimester basis:
Trimester I: September 11-November 20
Trimester II: November 27-February 27
Trimester III: March 2-May 22
Social groups do not meet on holidays or school vacations. Please see our calendar or speak to your group leader for specific dates.
Cost per trimester is $525 payable by check or credit card, due by the first meeting of group. If a student starts mid trimester, cost will be pro-rated.
Our students have taught us that for social education to work well, great care must be taken when placing kids in a group with his or her peers. We carefully consider each student's social development, cognitive profile, chronological age, and strengths and interests when creating groups. For this reason, it is expected that each child and family meet with a The Accord School social education staff member for an intake meeting prior to joining a group. There is a $75 fee for an intake, as we thoughtfully review any documents provided and spend up to an hour meeting with the student and parent. In the event that we do not have a group that fits, we will either offer a child a space on our waiting list or make a thoughtful, informed referral to another local provider.
